Willy Street in the '70s - Changing the World Through Art
This project celebrates the history of Willy Street in the 70's, when it was primarily a working class industrial area, a place where artists and social activists found cheap rent and minimal restriction on their artistic and political activity. A community of creative people developed around Gallery 853, the Broom Street Theatre, Mona's Way House Gallery of Light and Dolly Cafe where WORT radio broadcasts were made. A common vision and belief developed with artistic activity and community renewal. This is the local history of a generation whose hallmark was hope.
Participating artists in this project include: Peter Berryman, Michael Bonesteel, Warrington Colescott, SKY Flores (Sharon Kilfoy), Cele Wolf and Dan Yopack.
