Sangerfest Grand Concert

Running time: 2 hours

Every two years the Norwegian Singer’s Association of America (NSAA) holds a Sangerfest (Singers Festival) for the purpose of performing and cultivating the love and understanding of Scandinavian music. Except for the war years of 1918 and 1944, Sangerfests have been held every other
year since 1892 in one of five states in the Midwest.

Sangerfest 2010 will culminate on June 26, 2010, in a Grand Concert performed by approximately 225 chorus members accompanied by the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra and concert piano. The concert will be directed by Dr. David E. Judisch, Head of Voice and Opera at Luther College, and Edward Kramer of Grayslake, IL. The program will include about 20 choral arrangements of Norwegian and other Scandinavian music (many sung in the language of origin) and secular and sacred English language selections.

On Thursday, June 24, individual choruses will perform a free “Parade of Choruses” concert consisting of individual short programs by each chorus at the Capitol Theater. This will be the 58th biennial Sangerfest. Sangerfest 2010 is produced by the Dane County Friends of Scandinavian Culture in association with the Norwegian Singers Association of America and is hosted by Madison’s Edvard Grieg Chorus.

Sangerfest is hosted by the Edvard Grieg Chorus of Madison and performed by members of the Norwegian Singers Association of America.
