Ingrid Kallick, Madison; Larry and Eleanor Sternig Short Fiction Award
David McGlynn, Appleton; Kay Levin Short Nonfiction Award
Kallick’s story Sonia is a coming-of-age story inside an end-of-life story -- an intriguing weave of memories, a commanding voice with a combination of humor, suspense and fear that is admirable as well as memorable, ultimately beautiful.
McGlynn’s Hydrophobia, a thoughtful, funny and moving essay, ruminates on obsession, the “ordinary” madness that can accompany facing a world out of our control and the unexpected strength of the thin threads that hold people together in times of stress.
This reading is presented in conjunction with Aquila Theatre Company’s presentation of Henrik Ibsen’s Enemy of the People in The Playhouse.
