| Universes present Live From the Edge, showcasing the ensemble's special brand of fusion theater in a "best of" event that tracks the evolution of their poetic language from childhood rhymes and community rituals, to poetry and theater, hip-hop and gospel. Universes is a multi-ethnic cast of talented writers and performers who deliver poems in spoken harmony, ranging in style from alliterative jazz to spoken songs, in which there are occasional riffs with Top-40 songs, Mambo tunes, and Haitian styles. The show is staged with rhythmic movement and projections are used to establish locales. Topics will include jazz, racism, and history of poetry. |
