| Back in the day, opera was the pop music of its time.
Today, kids are more likely to hear an aria spoofed
on a cartoon or see opera as something stodgy and
passé. Performing new arrangements of pieces
like “Nessun dorma” and “La donna e mobile” with
a five-piece rock band, a string quartet and two
outstanding vocalists, East Village Opera Company
blends the drama and great melodies of classic
opera with modern, hard-rocking sensibilities for
an experience that opens young people’s eyes
and ears to this art form. |
