Meet the Artist Series

What could make a performance more exciting, engaging and interesting than the opportunity to Meet the Artist? Overture's discussions will let you do just that, whether or not you plan on attending the performance itself. These post-performance presentations feature informal discussion with company members and artistic directors, followed by an open question and answer session with the audience.

2010/11 Meet the Artist schedule

River North Chicago Dance Company
SAT, NOV 20, 8 PM | Capitol Theater

For twenty years, they've been the next big thing. Now, they're clearly the heir apparent to the Chicago dance throne. The Arizona Republic says they "sizzle like ice droplets on a hot skillet," and the Chicago Sun Times says they have "the repertoire and the dancers of a top-flight company."

Strega Nona
SUN, NOV 21, 3 PM | Capitol Theater

Based on the beloved children's books by "creative visionary" (Boston Globe) Tomie de Paola, this is the rich and colorful tale of a friendly witch who strives to cure the everyday ills of her tiny Italian town. Featuring an energetic score by composer Aron Accurso, the use of traditional Commedia dell’arte and a set design inspired by the Strega Nona pop-up book, this enchanting production illustrates the importance of the adage “be careful what you wish for - you just might get it!” Most enjoyed by children 4-9.

Popovich Comedy Pet Theater
SAT, FEB 5, 3 PM | Capitol Theater

It's raining cats and dogs - and clowns and jugglers! Gregory Popovich, heir to the storied Moscow Circus legacy, brings his highly unusual, family-oriented blend of the unique comedy and juggling and the extraordinary talents of his performing pets. Each of the show's 15 cats and 10 dogs were once strays, rescued from animal shelters. Now, they love to show off onstage - by performing a variety of stunts and skits! This extravaganza of European-style clowns, amazing juggling and balancing acts, and of course, very talented performing pets will delight adults and kids alike.

Parsons Dance with the East Village Opera Company
TUE, FEB 22, 7:30 PM | Capitol Theater

See an all-new version of the rock dance opera that sold out New York's Joyce Theater for six solid weeks.  Remember Me features Parsons Dance and the lead vocalists and music of the Grammy-nominated rock opera band, East Village Opera Company (EVOC). New choreography, all-new costumes by "Project Runway" designer Austin Scarlett and dramatic new lighting by Tony Award-winning lighting designer Howell Binkley turn up the passion and embolden David Parsons' electrifying dance.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar
SAT, MAR 12, 11 AM | Capitol Theater

This is the show that "in-the-know parents go nuts for," says New York Magazine. The charming blacklight puppetry gives even the youngest theatergoers a spellbinding experience. The elegant telling of these beautifully simple stories transfixes young and old alike. Since its first performance more than ten years ago, this collection of Eric Carle stories has come to life for more than a million wide-eyed children. And now it's your turn to watch your little caterpillars grow wings and fly!

Momix: Botanica
TUE, MAR 29, 7:30 PM | Overture Hall

Hot on the rise following national exposure (thanks to a wonderfully inventive series of Target ads) Moses Pendleton's illusionist dance company Momix brings its dazzling new show to Madison. Billed as an "herbal remedy and natural aphrodisiac for our current universal blues", Botanica features colourful costumes, marvelous moves and that signature Momix moxie.
